Tachograph for vans becomes required

Back to news

Tachographs to become mandatory for vansTachographs are already mandatory for trucks, and from 1 July 2026, vans with a weight greater than 2.5 tonnes will be required to register their driving and rest times with a smart tachograph as well. This is a direct consequence of the 2019 "Mobility Package" drawn up at European level. The intention is to promote fair competition, improve conditions for drivers, and increase safety on the road. The introduction of the requirement to retrofit vans with a tachograph was initially planned for 1 January 2024, but was pushed back several times. Private vehicles will not be covered by the new regulations.

What does the European "Mobility Package" entail?

The "Mobility package" is a set of European rules aimed specifically at the transport sector. The aim is to gradually equalise inequalities between the European Member States and achieve positive consequences. The first obligations regarding this shift became active in 2020. Detailed information can be found on the European Commission website.
